BPI Certification & Energy Auditing

'BPI

CleanEdison can help you and your organization enter into the fast growing Energy Audit business through our world class training and test preparatory services which will enable you to get  your Certification from the Building Performance Institute ("BPI").

BPI certified professionals generally begin with the Building Analyst Professional certification which enables you to perform the necessary Energy Audit.  Professionals will often then acquire a specialty certification in Envelope, Heating and/or Multi-family depending on their experience level and the type of work which they typically handle.

BPI Accreditation will increase revenue by creating contracting services necessary to reconcile the results from the energy audits.  Moreover, BPI Accredited firms set themselves apart from non-accredited firms by providing access to the vast array of state and local incentives to their clients which are only available to accredited firms.

As a BPI recognized training affiliate, CleanEdison provides comprehensive online and field training courses that prepare you and your organization to meet the rigorous demands of the BPI Accreditation process, while easily fitting into your schedule.

Once the legislation is passed, there will be a rush to the Energy Auditing Industry. Government funded programs always attract a lot of attention immediately because consumers want to take advantage of the program while it is available. The sooner you enter the industry, the better. It is important to be BPI Certified for when the first wave of homeowners reach out to the green job market for help with their home retrofitting plans.

When can we expect HOME STAR to really take off? Government programs always are slowed down. Thanks

BPI and RESNET are both important standards for residential energy efficiency.  However BPI is more geared to existing homes, while RESNET focuses more on new construction.  Additionally, BPI certification includes CAZ (Combustion Appliance Zone) testing.  This test can indicate the presence of dangerous gases throughout the house, ensuring the safety of the family home.  However, without the proper training, a poorly executed CAZ test can inadvertently cause these dangerous gases to leak throughout the home, endangering the lives of everyone in the building.  This is just one example of why CleanEdisons hands on field training to making sure the a energy audit is done correctly the first time, every time.

The industry average for a residential home audit is approximately $400. Prices may vary depending upon regional dempgraphics, and audits usually take around 3 hours to complete successfully.  With additional state and federal incentives homeowners will have even more reason to buy energy audit services from a BPI accredited company.

Yes BPI testing fees are included and certification is awarded to students who passed the exam.  However, in the case that a student does not pass, the student can take the course again for free, but the testing fees will not be included.

Right now BPI mandated audits are in place in New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Indiana, and Washington with Virginia, North & South Carolina, and many other states soon to follow suit.  As more consumers recognize the tremendous savings on monthly utility bills, demand for BPI energy audits will increase exponentially.  Additionally, federal and state incentives for residential and commercial energy efficiency will continue to drive demand even further.

Response to Tom Bennet

As the energy efficiency industry grows and the public becomes more aware of its benefits, BPI will grow right alongside it. There are 128 million homes in America with many of them built before the energy codes were established. There are unprecedented incentives from state and local government programs to retrofit these existing homes to our modern residential energy efficiency standards. So even if people in your state don’t know about it now, they will soon.

CleanEdisons unique blend of classroom and hands on field training will enable you to be fully prepared to work as an energy auditor. However, as with any profession, generally the more experience you have, the better qualified you will be to perform the job. A way to do this without working at an energy efficiency company would be to take one of CleanEdisons advanced BPI courses, which will give you extra experience and knowledge in the field. Having this additional certification will separate you from the rest of applicants when looking for a job in the Energy Auditing industry.

The Building Performance Institute, Inc. (BPI) is the organization that has set the standard for residential energy efficiency across the country. From that BPI developed a nationally recognized certification for individuals working in the home performance industry. CleanEdisons course is a BPI affiliate authorized to provide training and testing to those wishing to enter this high growth field.
