Free & Discounted Training Opportunities
CleanEdison’s Government Relations Group partners with state, regional and local government agencies, community colleges, trade associations, unions, and many other organizations to bring essential green job-training to America’s workforce. In many cases, these partnerships enable participants of the programs to receive free or discounted training through local grant opportunities.

Active Programs - Currently Enrolling Trainees

Efficiency First is a national, nonprofit trade association whose mission is to advocate for
companies and related organizations engaged in home energy performance retrofitting for
residential customers. Efficiency First received funding through the Clean Energy Workforce Training Panel (CEWTP) to partially reimburse member companies for employee training. All participating employers will be screened for compliance with the Panel’s guidelines for eligibility prior to trainee enrollment.

Casper College is part of a statewide grant program tasked with training approximately 1,050 participants for placement in energy efficient occupations funded by the Wyoming State Energy Sector Partnership included in the 2008 ARRA package. Under this initiative, the College will be offering participants courses that emphasize renewable energy generation including Accredited Geothermal Installer classes and a Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Boot Camp. Successful participants in the Casper College program will earn industry-recognized credit certification from the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA) and/or the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) Entry Level qualifications.

Through a joint initiative with the Santa Barbara Contractors Association and the Santa Maria Valley Contractors Association, emPowerSBC can help local contractors get a head start on attaining essential skills and certification through CleanEdison. Training classes in BPI, LEED and Renewables for contractors and employees in the region are now available at up to 75% off the retail cost, subsidized by the Clean Energy Workforce Training Program.

Kanawha Valley Community & Technical College has selected CleanEdison to provide grant-funded training to individuals aged 18 and up, preparing them for certification in BPI designations such as Insulation & Air Sealing Technician, Building Analyst, and Envelope Professional. West Virginia residents who are unemployed, veterans, low-income, in danger of losing their job, in need of upgraded skills, or have other barriers to sustained employment are encouraged to apply.

SavWatt USA, Inc., pioneer in LED lighting and the Green revolution, will receive grant funds from the Maryland Energy Sector Grant in cooperation with the City of Baltimore. This million dollar grant will offer local companies the ability to take reimbursable LEED certification classes, offered by Clean Edison, at SavWatt's Baltimore, MD headquarters.

CleanEdison partnered with Community Impact and New Heights Neighborhood Center to develop GreenNet, a comprehensive educational and employment program delivering work readiness, case management and support services, and weatherization and energy audit training and certification to disconnected youth. The grant-funded project, supervised by the NYC Department of Youth & Community Development, provides training and job placement for individuals aged 16-21 from low-income neighborhoods throughout New York City.

More than 450 low-income people will be trained in green skills and occupations as a
result of a new $3.6 million Recovery Act grant. The GreenLight Project will concentrate on serving the poorest areas of southeast Seattle over the next two years, connecting disadvantaged individuals to green-sector jobs. Commitments for more than 250 jobs in the sectors of deconstruction and materials use, energy-efficient building, and sustainable manufacturing have already been secured from local employers. The project is one of 40 Pathways Out of Poverty grants announced by the U.S. Department of Labor.

The San Bernardino County Workforce Investment Board is offering a free, green job-training program for dislocated workers. Using grant money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, this program is designed to stimulate the regional economy and upgrade workers’ job skills to facilitate their reentry into the workforce. San Bernardino County residents who complete the training will become BPI Certified Building Analysts, qualified to perform energy audits, which can help homeowners save as much as 30-40% on their monthly utility bills by utilizing the proper retrofits.

Completed Programs - Enrollment Closed

Business and Industry Training is the Continuing and Corporate Education division of Southeast Technical Institute, whose mission is to foster economic and workforce development by delivering effective, high-quality training for the enhancement of skills and career opportunities. BIT offered BPI Building Analyst Certification and various LEED Certification Training classes at no cost to the individual, through a grant provided by the South Dakota Department of Labor.
