Government Courses
Baltimore SSA Office (Government Course)
Social Security Goes Green! In the Fall of 2008, the Social Security Administration worked with GSA to renovate its 477,000 sq. ft. Annex Building using sustainable design practices, resulting in an environmentally-sensitive, LEED-certified facility. Rather than construct a new building, the project team reused the existing structure, saving $25 million in construction costs. Over 75% of building and construction materials were salvaged, saving an additional $310,000. Natural day lighting, high efficiency lighting, thermal ice storage, economizers, high performance windows, reflective roofing, energy-efficient HVAC equipment, and low-maintenance landscaping reduce energy use by 13% over a conventional building.
Determined to become a leader in the nation’s movement towards all green buildings and adhere to the Presidential Mandate to ‘green’ the government sector, the Baltimore office of the SSA contacted several green building education providers, but ultimately awarded the contract to CleanEdisonTM Inc for its superior reputation and pricing. In May of 2008, CleanEdisonTM Inc offered the government-specific course at the SSA Baltimore office. A mix of architects, engineers, energy specialists, occupational safety and health workers, and project managers made up the 18 person course instructed by CleanEdison’s Director of Architecture, Huerta Neals, RA, LEED AP. So far, all of the people who took the course and sat for the exam have earned their LEED AP status. University Curriculum
University of California Santa Cruz (University Course)

University of California Santa Cruz showed a remarkable propensity for forward-thinking via sustainable development when they revamped their Engineering 2 Building for LEED certification. Jim Dunne, the Director of Physical Plant said "we actually changed the way the building operated, and the way the building occupants operated.” The Engineering 2 Building was awarded a Silver rating. Obtaining the certification was part of a UC-wide mandate by the Office of the President.
Recognizing their need for university-wide LEED fluency, UCSC contacted CleanEdisonTM Inc to utilize their unique ability to cater their LEED training directly to the needs of their clients in terms of both course content and pricing. In March of 2009, CleanEdisonTM Inc offered the university-specific course at the University of California Santa Cruz. A mix of students and professors spanning the fields of architecture, engineer, and project management made up the 18 person course instructed by CleanEdison’s Devin Saylor, LEED AP. So far, all of the people who took the course and sat for the exam have earned their LEED AP status.
