Unemployed workers in Southern California receive green job training through local community college program funded in part by federal stimulus package...
North Orange County Community College District of Anaheim, California, awarded CleanEdison, Inc a contract to provide green job training for 150 unemployed and underemployed residents of the county. The nine-month program is funded by a collaboration of sources, including the American Reinvestment & Recovery Act, the Governor’s discretionary funds, and public-private partnerships. Chosen for their extensive experience with large-scale green job training programs across the country, CleanEdison will provide a blended curriculum of energy audit training. Beginning this month, the training will prepare 150 workers for jobs in the flourishing green economy.
“We are thrilled to announce this partnership with CleanEdison,” said Christine Terry, SCE Provost at North Orange County Community College District. “As leading experts in green training, CleanEdison will give local workers the training to get back to work in a high-growth industry that is making homes in our community more energy efficient."
CleanEdison has quickly become a leading green job training firm, offering state-of-the-art classes in a variety of disciplines, from Energy Auditing to LEED exam preparation. As the country’s largest training providers for the Building Performance Institute (BPI), CleanEdison has been selected for numerous contracts funded by local, state and federal initiatives, and anticipates additional growth as taxpayers continue to see the benefits of energy efficiency.
"The energy efficiency sector offers tremendous opportunity for job creation, and federal incentives for homeowners only strengthen the industry’s outlook," said Avi Yashchin, CEO of CleanEdison. Bipartisan legislation like the Home Stare Energy Retrofit Act, recently introduced in the House, establishes a $6 billion rebate program to drive immediate investment in residential energy efficiency. This program will help homeowners pay for efficiency improvements in the home, like basic weatherization services, as well as helping purchase home appliance from manufacturers committed to energy efficient products, such as Whirlpool Corp (WHR). Yashchin explained, “The results are a reduction in energy consumption, utility cost savings for homeowners by as much as 40% and new jobs that can’t be exported - it’s a win for everyone involved.”
