The course will prepare individuals with the knowledge necessary to provide homeowners an overview of energy consumption and options to save money by conserving energy
This CleanEdison course provides introductory certification and is the initial step in becoming an energy auditor for professionals with some previous experience in residential contracting or home inspection. Enrollees will prepare for the two hour, 100 question written exam and the two hour, one-on-one field exam.
Topics to be covered include principles of energy and building science; the energy audit process; building shell and thermal envelope; airflow basics; moisture management; air quality; combustion safety and CO monitoring; building systems: HVAC, lighting, appliances, and DHW; diagnosing common building problems; blower door testing; combustion testing and safety.
Cost of the course is $1,600. Included in the cost are pre-course materials, including definitions, concepts, basic math review, and useful formulas; CleanEdison workbook with class exercises and review materials; field guide - step-by-step manual on analyzing buildings with a primary focus on energy efficiency; two full days of classroom training; two full days of field training; Building Performance Institute (BPI) application fees; written exam fee; field exam fee.
