Thermal Imaging for Energy Audits

Thermal Imaging for Energy Audits

Now that you have learned the basics of how to operate a camera and you understand the images that are presented, it is now time to upgrade your skills.

This 2-day course is intended to give the student the knowledge base necessary to perform IR surveys of residences, primarily single family homes, to identify weatherization issues. The class covers basic IR camera operation, image downloading and basic report generation, fundamentals of IR science and heat transfer, use with other testing such as blower doors, techniques, tips and tricks for weatherization IR surveys and application examples.By the end of the course, the student will have a greater understanding of IR thermography for application in Building Weatherization and will understand caveats and pitfalls that can present challenges.

Why?

A good weatherization IR survey can identify thermal anomalies that indicate missing insulation and insulation defects due to damage, moisture and improper installation. The IR survey can also provide indication of potential areas of imminent condensation, moist or wet areas as well as air infiltration and exfiltration, especially when used in conjunction with blower door testing. IR surveys can also find duct leaks when used with duct pressurization testing. Documentation with IR images is a key feature of IR thermography for weatherization. The course covers the caveats and environmental conditions necessary for a successful weatherization IR survey, as well as pitfalls to avoid.

Approved by RESNET for 16 continuing education credits, BPI recognized for 8 CEU Credits.

Testimonials

Took the crash course with you last week and I had no time to study all week (a crew regatta in Philly over the weekend, 2 birthday party's, meetings on Tuesday and this morning) & was figuring on retaking next month. I just passed today! I couldn't believe it. I could not have done it without your experience. Will be taking another course from you soon!
